For the record:

conversations

over

knitting

Leave a record of you, yourself, a knitter.

We will create a wall of hand-knitting and knitter's thoughts; to record a 'made census’ of hand-knitters’ work, resulting in a knitted structure or record.

Part I: bias block

We invite you to knit a bias block in cream yarn.

The stories we knit. Any wool, acrylic, nylon, alpaca, anything. This magic square has an old, old story to tell. Its roots are in thrift and love.

go to: how to make the bias block

Part II: little tag

We invite you to tell the story of your thoughts as you worked the bias block.

The words we knit. If words won’t describe, then pictures might.

Sign your name, only if you want to; anonymous is just as

meaningful. Write anything you want, there

are no expectations. We only wish to

leave space for the voice of

the person who knitted.

The bias blocks and tags will be presented as a living 'document of the knitter's voice'.

The little blocks will be joined together to create a HUGE structure; as a touring art-piece. When the piece becomes tired of being transported around it will be broken down into, and formed into knee blankets and sent out into the world; the community.

The little tags/words (full of your thoughts as you worked the bias block; wisdoms, anecdotes and memories, ideas, epiphanies, musings, etc. ) will be preserved as a testimony to the unique and special world of hand-knitting/hand-knitters.

Taking part in the 'collective voice of knitters'

When you have completed the bias block, printed out the 10cms x 10cms little tag (on white paper or card) and written your thoughts inside, please post both of them to:

Thank you - we will add you work/words to the growing wall.

As the 'wall' grows it will show shape, form and structure, and be a ‘real’ recorded history of hand-knitting and hand-knitter's thoughts. All bias block offerings (with thoughts/ anecdotes etc.) will be collated and displayed on our website, creating a living history of hand-knitting.
