New star

 

Please knit in undyed yarn: cream or beige.


Abbreviations:

st(s) – stitch(es)

k - knit

p - purl

sl - slip stitch (slip a stitch onto the right hand needle without working)

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together  

psso - pass slipped stitch over.

Cast on 55 sts. 


Row 1: k4, sl1, k2tog, psso (k8, sl1, k2tog, psso) x4, k4 (45 sts)

Row 2: k3,sl1, k2tog, psso (k6, sl1, k2tog, psso) x4, k3 (35 sts)

Row 3: k2,sl1, k2tog, psso (k4, sl1, k2tog, psso) x4, k2 (25 sts)

Row 4: P to end.

Row 5: k1, sl1, k2tog, psso (k2, sl1, k2tog, psso) x4, k1 (15 sts)

Row 6: P to end

Row 7: sl1, k2tog, psso x5 (5 sts)

Break yarn, leave 30 cm to finish. With sewing up needle thread yarn through last 5 sts - pull tight. Using the same yarn join the short 7 row edges using a flat seam. Sew in cast-on tail. For a sharp star wash/dampen, pin out on rug/blanket, stretch star points outwards. Leave to dry. Embellish as fits the occasion, and hang from the topmost point.
