Working with Colour
Facilitator: Lynne James
My love affair with colour began when I was a young child in Primary School, when my teacher gave me a huge ball of bright pink wool, and a small pair of bright pink knitting needles. I wanted to take the needles home. I was not interested in trying to knit a small penny purse. Years later I bought a Vogue Knitting Magazine and again fell in love with a bright pink mohair jumper worn by ‘Twiggy’.
Pink flowers... pink wool... pink wall paper pink shoes ....pink wool and more pink wool I was determined to teach myself the art of ‘knitting’. Two shops later, from corsages to tea cosies, from Wales to America, my work has brought new friendships and so much inspiration from other countries.
I am passionate about colour and even more passionate about creating a piece of fabric with my two wooden sticks and a ball of yarn. Knitting has given me a medium to express my love of colour and texture.
Today I go out with my camera to the woods and the seaside, or just take a look at a window box; for Mother Nature imparts her wonderful colour palette for each of us to use, I match a yarn to my photograph and allow my imagination to dance. I hope to inspire other people through my designs.
